Basketball Recap: Newark Catholic Find Success

Newark Catholic won the last time they faced Mt. Vernon, and Sophie Chard Peloquin did her part to make sure it happened again. The Newark Catholic Green Wave put the hurt on the Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets with a sharp 61-41 win on Tuesday thanks in part to Chard Peloquin, who went 7 of 9 from beyond the arc on her way to 28 points along with five boards and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Caudill, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 13 points. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (four).

Newark Catholic now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newark Catholic will head out to face off against Heath at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Mt. Vernon, they will venture away from home to challenge Granville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Granville will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Mt. Vernon surely won't give up without a fight.
