Basketball Recap: Josey Comes Up Short

Josey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They came up short against the Burke County Bears, falling 74-49. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while the Bears are ranked 160th).

Burke County found their leader in freshman De'Quayvian Lovette, who went 13 of 23 en route to 31 points along with five boards and five steals. Lovette continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Omarion Cobb, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Josey's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Burke County, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Butler the next time they take the court. Josey will head out to face Butler at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Burke County will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
