Softball Recap: Toll Gate's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak at Home

Toll Gate had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Exeter-West Greenwich on Friday. The Titans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Scarlet Knights a 15-0 shutout. With that victory, the Titans brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Reagan Motta made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Motta was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Toll Gate let Abbi O'Connor and Liv Cota run wild. O'Connor scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Cota scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. O'Connor also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ava DelVicario, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Toll Gate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Toll Gate's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-2. As for Exeter-West Greenwich, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Toll Gate will head out on the road to face off against Mt. Hope at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Exeter-West Greenwich, they will welcome Classical at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
