Softball Game Preview: Victoria East Titans vs. Lamar Consolidated Mustangs

The Victoria East Titans will head out to face off against the Lamar Consolidated Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Victoria East's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.

Victoria East's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Fort Bend Marshall 16-0. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Lamar Consolidated had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Lions by a score of 6-2.

Aubrey Edwards was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Edwards was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Terra Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Aubree Jones was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Lamar Consolidated hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive matchups.

Lamar Consolidated's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Victoria East, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-14 record this season.

Victoria East suffered a grim 19-2 defeat to Lamar Consolidated when the teams last played back in March. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
