Baseball Recap: Hawkins Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Como-Pickton, Hawkins was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They skirted past the Martins Mill Mustangs 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won five in a row.

Eli Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hawkins saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paxton Metcalf, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Hunter Kirklin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Hawkins pushed their record up to 17-7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Martins Mill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Hawkins will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
