The Ganesha Giants will head out to challenge the Workman Lobos at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ganesha is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 12 games.
Ganesha's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past La Puente 13-0. The result was nothing new for the Giants, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Johana Pina was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Lacy VanTuinen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Ganesha hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 14 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Workman lost 14-3 to Edgewood on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Lobos in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.
Leana Sanchez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Ganesha pushed their record up to 15-4-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Workman, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ganesha hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .443. However, it's not like Workman struggles in that department as they've averaged .405. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Ganesha's way against Workman in their previous meeting back in March, as Ganesha made off with a 17-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Giants since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
