Basketball Recap: Isaiah Guzman Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat James Irwin

There's no place like home for Rye, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They secured a 61-55 W over the James Irwin Jaguars on Wednesday. For the Thunderbolts, this counts as revenge for the 62-59 victory the Jaguars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Rye's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaiah Guzman, who posted 28 points. Guzman has become a key player for Rye: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 20 points, but 4-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Axton Ehrlich, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.

Rye was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Irwin only posted eight assists.

Jace Remo and Jonathan Kimble certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Remo had 23 points, while Kimble dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. Remo continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Jaiden Davis was another key player, putting up ten points and five boards.

Rye's record now sits at 7-12. As for James Irwin, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rye will head out to challenge The Vanguard School at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for James Irwin, they will venture away from home to face off against Liberty Tree Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
