Softball Recap: Saint Joseph Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

Saint Joseph's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Covina Colts a 14-0 shutout. The Jesters might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Nicole Bergman looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Carmen Henderson and Emi Lopez did most of the damage at the plate: Henderson went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Lopez scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Lopez a new career-high in RBI (three). Breanna Ochoa was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Saint Joseph lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.

Saint Joseph has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. Covina's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6-1.

Saint Joseph has already played their next game, a 12-4 win against Chaparral on the 29th. As for Covina, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Wilson at 3:30 p.m.
