South Mecklenburg is 10-0 against Olympic since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The South Mecklenburg Sabres will take on the Olympic Trojans in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. South Mecklenburg is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
South Mecklenburg will head out to face Olympic after giving up their first home loss of the season on Thursday. South Mecklenburg fell 62-53 to Richmond.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Chloe Grant, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards. Kaitlyn Hensley was another key player, putting up 12 points and six assists.
Meanwhile, Olympic scored the most points they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 58-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Weddington.
Despite the defeat, Olympic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Chaya James dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Olympic is 2-1 when James posts ten or more boards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Shaw, who posted 12 points.
Even though they lost, Olympic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.
Olympic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for South Mecklenburg, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: South Mecklenburg has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Olympic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for South Mecklenburg against Olympic in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 60-31 win. In that game, South Mecklenburg amassed a halftime lead of 33-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
