Baseball Recap: Lamesa Takes a Loss

Lamesa had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 12-14 to make it five. They lost 11-1 to the Denver City Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 back in March.

As for Denver City, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Denver City's part, Andres Ornelas spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. Ornelas has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Denver City let Daniel Saldana and SamRey Garcia run wild. Saldana went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Garcia went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Saldana has posted since back in March. Jose Estrada was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lamesa is set to challenge their familiar foe Compass Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Denver City will face off against rival Brownfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
