Cumberland takes loss despite strong efforts from Blake Mcmechan and Zack Harmon

Recap: Cumberland Pirates vs. Brownstown/St. Elmo Eagles

The Cumberland Pirates were the 46-45 winner over the Brownstown/St. Elmo Eagles when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The matchup between the pair wasn't particularly close, with Cumberland falling 50-36. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 413th, while Brownstown/St. Elmo is ranked 187th).

Cumberland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zack Harmon, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals, and Blake Mcmechan who scored ten points. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for him.

Cumberland now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Brownstown/St. Elmo, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.

Cumberland will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Hillsboro at 6:00 p.m. on December 16th. Hillsboro is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.5 points per game. As for Brownstown/St. Elmo, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 7:30 p.m. on December 16th. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
