Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett Takes a Loss

Purnell Swett was the 52-25 winner over Douglas Byrd when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Purnell Swett Rams took a 44-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Douglas Byrd Eagles on Friday. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leading Douglas Byrd to victory were Jazmine Burns and JayLinda Depina. Burns almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards, while Depina posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Burns has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Shania McLucas was another key player, putting up seven points along with five assists and five steals.

Purnell Swett's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Douglas Byrd, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.

Purnell Swett has already played their next game (against Red Springs), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Douglas Byrd will face off against Jack Britt at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th.
