Basketball Game Preview: Killian Cougars vs. Westland Hialeah Wildcats

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Killian Cougars challenge the Westland Hialeah Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday... Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.

Killian is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Varela on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Killian was outmatched by Varela and fell 75-45. The Cougars were down 61-35 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Killian's loss came about despite a quality game from Christian Torres, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 21 points and five boards. That was a full 46.7% of Killian's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Gonzalez, who went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points.

Meanwhile, Westland Hialeah lost to Pinecrest Prep at home by a 57-42 margin on Tuesday.

Westland Hialeah's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-11. As for Killian, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

Killian strolled past Westland Hialeah when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 59-41. Does Killian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Westland Hialeah turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
