Softball Game Preview: East Nicolaus Spartans vs. Quincy Trojans

The East Nicolaus Spartans will take on the Quincy Trojans at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

East Nicolaus is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Mt. Shasta a 13-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Meanwhile, Quincy had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 14-4 victory.

Jemma Trueblood made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Gay, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Morganne Olhiser was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Quincy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portola only posted a batting average of .211.

East Nicolaus' record now sits at 19-6. As for Quincy, their record is now 22-4.

East Nicolaus took their win against Quincy in their previous meeting back in May of 2019 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
