Softball Recap: Ocean Lakes Drops Highest Score of Season Against Green Run

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ocean Lakes). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Green Run Stallions an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Dolphins needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Sam Patterson and Kaitlyn Wilms made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Patterson struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Wilms tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Patterson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Patterson went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Wilms went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Ocean Lakes got a massive performance out of Cali Watson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Watson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Scheible, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Ocean Lakes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Run only posted an OBP of .200.

Ocean Lakes' record now sits at 9-3. As for Green Run, their defeat was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Coming up, Ocean Lakes will head out on the road to square off against First Colonial at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Dolphins surely won't give up without a fight. As for Green Run, they will be playing at home against Kellam at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Stallions' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
