Baseball Game Preview: St. Paul's Episcopal Saints vs. Gulf Shores Dolphins

The St. Paul's Episcopal Saints will face off against the Gulf Shores Dolphins at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in St. Paul's Episcopal's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Gulf Shores has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

St. Paul's Episcopal will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Faith Academy, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Saints had just enough and edged out the Rams 7-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Brooks McDonald was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Edward McLeod, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Gulf Shores and McGill-Toolen, and McGill-Toolen kept the tradition alive. The Dolphins took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets on Friday.

John Luke Stephens put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Stephens was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Stephens wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob O'Bryan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Gulf Shores is 7-2 when O'Bryan posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise.

St. Paul's Episcopal has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gulf Shores, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.
