Basketball Recap: Carbondale Takes a Loss

Carbondale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 59-48 to the Richland County Tigers.

Richland County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kelysse Weiler, who went 8 of 19 en route to 28 points and five rebounds. Weiler continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Leah Gibson, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 17 points and six rebounds.

Carbondale's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Richland County, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

Carbondale and Richland County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Carbondale (ranked 167th) will meet Nashville (ranked 27th) at 7:15 p.m. on January 7th. Similarly, Richland County (ranked 150th) will meet Mt. Carmel (ranked 42nd) at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th.
