Softball Recap: Dayton Comes Up Short

Dayton extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They lost 17-2 to the Highlands Bluebirds. If the Greendevils were looking for revenge after losing 12-5 to the Bluebirds when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Highlands, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 23-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

For Highlands' part, Payton Brown and Bailee Class did most of the damage at the plate: Brown went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Class went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Dixon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Dayton will be playing at home against Bellevue at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Highlands, they will venture away from home to square off against Woodford County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
