Basketball Recap: Vela Sabercats vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders
The Vela Sabercats stacked a 13th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North 58-22 on the road. The win was familiar territory for Vela who now have four in a row.
Janai Coleman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Gg Betancourt, who scored 14 points along with six steals.
Despite the loss, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North had strong showings from Camila Garcia, who scored eight points along with six rebounds, and Alexandra Gonzalez, who scored three points along with five rebounds and two steals. Gonzalez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Vela has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 22 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 27-5 record this season. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-16.
Vela will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully McAllen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 last Tuesday. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they will head out on the road to take on the Rattlers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sharyland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Friday.
