Oak Glen faced Weir in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Golden Bears won by a run and slipped past the Red Riders 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Bears sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Mattie Carney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Oak Glen's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Macy Hartung, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Oak Glen's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Weir, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-3.

Coming up, Oak Glen will venture away from home to square off against Wheeling Central Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Weir, they will square off against Edison at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
