Basketball Recap: Crystal City Comes Up Short

Crystal City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 69-25 loss at the hands of the Fredericktown Black Cats. The Hornets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-11.

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maya Hankins, who posted four points and 11 boards. Hankins is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

Even though they lost, Crystal City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. This was only their third loss (out of ten games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Pj Reutzel continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fredericktown, dropping a double-double with 26 points and 11 boards. Reutzel is becoming a predictor of Fredericktown's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 12-4 (and 3-5 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Hale, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards.

Crystal City's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Fredericktown, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.
