Football Recap: Choctaw County Comes Up Short

After flying high against Aberdeen last Friday, Choctaw County came back down to earth. The Chargers were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 8-7 to the Noxubee County Tigers. Despite 88 more yards than the Tigers, the Chargers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

When it comes to explaining why Choctaw County lost, don't look at Jeramiah Miller. Despite the final result, he rushed for 129 yards and one score on only 14 carries. Miller got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 67 yards.

Even if they lost, Choctaw County's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Benjarvius Shumaker was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Shumaker is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Choctaw County's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Noxubee County, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3.

Coming up, Choctaw County will take on Winona at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Noxubee County, they will square off against Nettleton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Noxubee County will be up against Nettleton's rather soft defense (which has allowed 48.71 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
