Softball Recap: Eisenhower Comes Up Short

Eisenhower had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 14-11 to make it four. They came up short against the Nimitz Cougars, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Nimitz, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.3 runs over those games.

For Nimitz's part, Marilynn Hernandez-Gomez spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. Hernandez-Gomez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sophia Ruiz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Clarrissa Guerrero, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Eisenhower will host Aldine at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nimitz, they are taking a road trip to face off against Spring at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last 12 contests.
