Baseball Game Preview: Lawrence County Cougars vs. McComb Tigers

Lawrence County is 8-2 against McComb since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Lawrence County Cougars face off against McComb Tigers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lawrence County has five straight wins, McComb has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Lawrence County hadn't beaten Richland on the road since March 9, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Cougars came out on top against the Rangers by a score of 6-3.

Grey Boyd and JaKobe Haynes did most of the damage at the plate: Boyd scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3, while Haynes scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Boyd is becoming a predictor of Lawrence County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-3 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Turner, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, McComb came up short against Raymond on Tuesday, falling 20-3.

McComb saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Antonio Dyson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Lawrence County pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for McComb, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Lawrence County took their victory against McComb in their previous meeting last Tuesday by a conclusive 20-1 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
