Baseball Recap: Bruton Takes a Loss

Bruton extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping them down to 1-14. They lost 12-1 to the Jamestown Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-0 back in March.

As for Jamestown, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Jamestown's part, Grant Nelson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Nelson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Charles Clawson and William Morris did most of the damage at the plate: Clawson went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Morris went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those three runs gave Clawson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathaniel Dafashy, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Bruton has already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Gloucester on the 6th. As for Jamestown, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-0 defeat against Poquoson on the 6th.
