Basketball Game Preview: St. Mary's Dominican vs. Mt. Carmel Cubs

St. Mary's Dominican and Mt. Carmel are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. St. Mary's Dominican will welcome the Mt. Carmel Cubs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

St. Mary's Dominican took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Warren Easton by a score of 57-45. Given St. Mary's Dominican's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Warren Easton is ranked 105th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, taking the game 49-38.

St. Mary's Dominican's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 20-4. As for Mt. Carmel, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

St. Mary's Dominican skirted past Mt. Carmel 33-31 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Does St. Mary's Dominican have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mt. Carmel turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
