Preview: Northeast Eagles vs. South River Seahawks

Northeast is 0-5 against South River since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Northeast Eagles' road trip will continue as they head out to face the South River Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Northeast focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday.

Northeast suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They took a serious blow against Southern, falling 70-30. While losing is never fun, Northeast can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while Southern is ranked 61st).

Despite their defeat, Northeast saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Brynn Jones, who scored seven points along with four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kamaria Brown, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, South River stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 54-21 win over Old Mill. The win was familiar territory for South River who now have three in a row.

Northeast bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.1 points per game. As for South River, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.

Northeast took a serious blow against South River in their previous matchup back in January of 2020, falling 67-13. Can Northeast avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
