Softball Game Preview: Greenwood Woodmen vs. Mooresville Pioneers

For the second straight game, Greenwood will face off against Mooresville. The Woodmen will head out on the road to square off against the Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenwood has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Greenwood fell victim to Mooresville and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 11-0 to the Pioneers. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Woodmen's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Mooresville's part, Reagan Bauer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Bauer has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tatum Humphrey, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Olivia Turner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Mooresville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Mooresville is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
