Basketball Game Preview: Loyola Cubs vs. Sierra Canyon Trailblazers

The Loyola Cubs are taking a road trip to face off against the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Loyola is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Notre Dame (SO) just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a blow against the Knights, falling 88-32. While losing is never fun, the Cubs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Knights are ranked eighth).

Meanwhile, Sierra Canyon waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They really took it to the Eagles for the full four quarters, racking up an 87-54 win. The Trailblazers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 20 points or more this season.

Sierra Canyon is also on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.9 points per game. As for Loyola, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-4.

Loyola was taken down by Sierra Canyon 65-34 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Loyola avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
