Softball Preview: Avon Eagles vs. Midview Middies
The Avon Eagles will head out to take on the Midview Middies at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, Avon got the win against Solon by a conclusive 12-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Meanwhile, Midview entered their tilt with Avon Lake on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Shoremen.
Savannah Holcomb made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Midview let Dezirae Thomas and Liv Keenan run wild. Thomas got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two doubles, while Keenan got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Ava Kunakowsky also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Midview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Avon Lake only posted an OBP of .364.
Avon's record now sits at 11-8. As for Midview, their record is now 7-8.
Avon skirted past Midview 4-2 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
