Basketball Recap: Portage Comes Up Short

Portage lost against Hammond Morton back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Portage Indians took a blow against the Hammond Morton Governors, falling 58-16. The matchup marked the Indians' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Peyton Wilson and Presley Wellestat, who each put up five points. Kamryn Lockett held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.

Hammond Morton found their leader in sophomore Kylah KP Patterson, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 21 rebounds. The game was Patterson's 21st in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of De?Zyrra Willingham, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Portage and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Hammond Morton, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Portage didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-19 defeat against Chesterton on the 13th. As for Hammond Morton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 69-28 win against Gary West Side on the 12th.
