Baseball Recap: Mason Comes Up Short

Mason suffered their closest loss since May 10, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the St. Xavier Bombers by a score of 8-6. The Comets just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Ollie Stuart was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Johnson and Dylan Heimbuch stepped up to the plate in a big way. Johnson went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Heimbuch went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That home run was Johnson's first of the season.

Mason's loss dropped their record down to 18-5. As for St. Xavier, they pushed their record up to 12-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mason will challenge Harrison at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Comets 2.7, the Wildcats 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for St. Xavier, they will square off against Bishop Fenwick at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
