Burges and Chapin are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Burges is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Burges and El Paso have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Mustangs came up short against the Tigers, falling 12-2.
Burges saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peter Rodriguez, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
The home team had won the previous seven meetings between Chapin and Andress, and Chapin kept the tradition alive. The Huskies came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday.
Ozzie Marquez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Chapin is 3-1 when Marquez posts three or more hits, but 8-14 otherwise.
In other batting news, Nathan Sanchez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Soto, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.
Chapin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Chapin's win bumped their record up to 11-15. As for Burges, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15-2.
