Baseball Game Preview: Sparta Trojans vs. Fordland Eagles

The Sparta Trojans will head out to face off against the Fordland Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Sparta earned an 8-3 victory over Crane. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Austin Humble and Vincent Almendarez did most of the damage at the plate: Humble scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Almendarez went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Almendarez a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Fordland put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Pleasant Hope as Fordland made off with a 6-0 victory. Give the Eagles' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

The team relied heavily on Drew Waterman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Elijah Lockett, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Fordland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fordland pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.the team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team won's by an average of 7.3 runs thus far As for Sparta, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Sparta came out on top in a nail-biter against Fordland in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sparta since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
