Soccer Game Preview: Austin vs. Clemens

The Austin Maroons will head out to take on the Clemens Buffaloes at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Austin's last four contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Austin is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against McCallum on Monday. Austin fell just short of McCallum by a score of 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Maroons in their matchups with the Knights: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Clemens kept a clean sheet against Laredo LBJ on Saturday. They blew past Wolves 6-0. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Buffaloes considering their one-goal performance the game before.

Their offense was hitting Laredo LBJ from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Edgar Govea led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Austin's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3-2. As for Clemens, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.

Austin might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Clemens when the teams last played back in January of 2017. Can Austin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
