Football Recap: McDonough Comes Up Short

If McDonough was feeling good fresh off their 28-7 takedown of Eagle's Landing Christian Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Warhawks fell just short of the Jones County Greyhounds by a score of 27-24 on Friday. The Warhawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Greyhounds from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why McDonough lost, don't look at Aj Tillman Jr. Despite the final result, he rushed for 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry.

The critical scores for Jones County came from Bruno Hicks, Kaden Canty, and Jr Clark.

McDonough has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Jones County, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Looking ahead, McDonough will square off against Locust Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' defense has only allowed 14.3 points per game this season, so the Warhawks' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Jones County, they will take on Eagle's Landing Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Greyhounds will be up against the Chargers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.14 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
