Baseball Recap: Biddeford Sets Scoring Season-High Against Westbrook

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Biddeford). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Westbrook Blue Blazes a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Dom Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Landon Sirois was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Gavin Haggett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

Biddeford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Biddeford's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Westbrook, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Biddeford will host Bonny Eagle at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Westbrook, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Thornton Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Blue Blazes surely won't give up without a fight.
