Baseball Game Preview: Auburn Tigers vs. Smiths Station Panthers

For the second straight game, Auburn will face off against Smiths Station. The Tigers will welcome the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Auburn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Auburn was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past Smiths Station 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since February 25th.

Will Whatley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Auburn is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-13 otherwise.

At the plate, Antwane Daniels was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was JB Upton, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Smiths Station is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-23. As for Auburn, they now have a winning record of 16-15.
