Baseball Game Preview: Tonkawa Buccaneers vs. Newkirk Tigers

Tonkawa is 8-2 against Newkirk since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Buccaneers will welcome the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

On Monday, Tonkawa needed a bit of extra time to put away Morrison. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 11-8.

Cayden Duvall made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Cason Johnson was a standout: he scored four runs while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Westyn Freeman was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Newkirk challenged Destiny Christian on Saturday. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 12-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 11, 2024.

Blake Stowe was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Newkirk hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Destiny Christian struck out seven times.

Newkirk has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Tonkawa, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.

Tonkawa came out on top in a nail-biter against Newkirk when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Will the Buccaneers repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
