Baseball Game Preview: Briarcrest Christian Saints vs. Columbia Academy Cougars

The Briarcrest Christian Saints will face off against the Columbia Academy Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Briarcrest Christian nor Columbia Academy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Friday just wasn't the day for Briarcrest Christian's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lausanne Collegiate on Friday. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Briarcrest Christian got a good showing from Nathan Powers, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Powers has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Columbia Academy has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.92 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They came up short against Purvis, falling 12-1. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Columbia Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Speir, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.

The loss snapped Columbia Academy's winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 9-3 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Briarcrest Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Briarcrest Christian couldn't quite get it done against Columbia Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 as they fell 6-1. Can Briarcrest Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
