Rocky Grove took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over Cochranton. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Orioles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Preston Keith, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Dillon Hamilton, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Rocky Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Saegertown entered their tilt with Maplewood on Monday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 3-0 shutout. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Panthers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Saegertown's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Demarcus Manning, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Rocky Grove now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Saegertown, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rocky Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Saegertown struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
