Meanwhile, East Rockingham got the win against William Monroe on Friday by a conclusive 42-20. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 22 points or more this season.
East Rockingham's win came from a few key players Broadway will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Demetrius Arrington, who rushed for 286 yards and three scores while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 115.4 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Aiden Raines, who rushed for 119 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries.
East Rockingham didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Arrington and Alex Jerrells. Arrington also punched in three rushing touchdowns, which is notable because East Rockingham is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.
Broadway's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.0 points on average over those games. As for East Rockingham, their record is now 6-3.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Hinkle and Arrington. Hinkle just won't slow down this season and has thrown 10 touchdowns (and and only 1 picks) while averaging 124.8 passing yards per game. Arrington has been a dominant force too and has run in 17 touchdowns while averaging 115.4 rushing yards per game.
Everything came up roses for Broadway against East Rockingham when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 35-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gobblers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
