Basketball Game Preview: Goodrich Hornets vs. High Island Cardinals

Goodrich and High Island are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Goodrich Hornets are taking a road trip to challenge the High Island Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 32 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Goodrich and 13 for High Island.

Goodrich is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Brookeland on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Goodrich was beaten by Brookeland 153-14. The Hornets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 89-6.

Meanwhile, High Island had to suffer through a 80-23 loss at the hands of Spurger. The Cardinals were down 59-18 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Goodrich will have to contain Cam'Ron Medina as he made an impact in High Island's last game. He posted 12 points. That was a full 52.2% of High Island's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Goodrich's defeat dropped their record down to 0-18. As for High Island, their loss dropped their record down to 2-18.

Goodrich and High Island were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but Goodrich came up empty-handed after a 34-33 defeat. Can Goodrich avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
