Softball Game Preview: Riverview Sharks vs. Plant City Raiders

The Riverview Sharks will head out to face off against the Plant City Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverview will be strutting in after a victory while Plant City will be coming in after a defeat.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Riverview and Wharton had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Riverview never let Wharton get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Sharks in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won six in a row.

The result came thanks to Briyana Smith's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Juliet Sederio, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecilia Cartwright, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 22 runs the game before, Plant City was a bit more limited in their match on Monday. They came up short against George Jenkins, falling 7-1. The loss continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

Riverview's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Plant City, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Riverview has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Plant City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Riverview's way against Plant City when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Riverview made off with a 14-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverview since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
