Basketball Game Preview: Flinthills Mustangs vs. Udall Eagles

Flinthills and Udall are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Flinthills Mustangs will host the Udall Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Flinthills easily dispatched Bluestem last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Flinthills fell just short of Oxford by a score of 60-57 on Tuesday.

Flinthills might have lost, but man, Jacob Hunter was a machine: he went 10 of 25 on his way to 28 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. That was a full 49.1% of Flinthills' points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Randall, who had six points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Udall hadn't done well against Caldwell recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Udall walked away with a 62-51 win over Caldwell. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Udall's win came from a few key players Flinthills will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Isaac Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. Jordan Hornecker was another key player, going 6 for 12 en route to 14 points along with five assists and three blocks.

Udall's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Flinthills, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4.

Flinthills beat Udall 59-48 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Will Flinthills repeat their success, or does Udall have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
