Baseball Recap: South Sumter's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

South Sumter took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Nature Coast Tech, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. South Sumter narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Nature Coast Tech 3-2. The win was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won eight contests in a row.

South Sumter got a great performance from Jackson Gill as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Gill has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kamren Gilliam was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

South Sumter's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Nature Coast Tech, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5.

Looking ahead, South Sumter will head out on the road to face off against Tampa Prep at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Nature Coast Tech, they will be playing at home against Citrus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Nature Coast Tech is facing Citrus at the right time seeing as Citrus is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
