Basketball Recap: University Prep Comes Up Short

University Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Academy for Academic Excellence Knights. The Jaguars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Knights from their previous meeting back in February.

Despite the loss, University Prep saw an underclassman step up: freshman JOSHUA OKEKE posted 21 points. Another player making a difference was DONALD McFARLIN, who put up eight points.

University Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University Prep will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hesperia Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Academy for Academic Excellence will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Norton Science & Language Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
