Baseball Recap: Higley Takes Down Williams Field in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Higley walked away with it. They won by a run and slipped past the Williams Field Black Hawks 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Black Hawks last Thursday, they had to take a 8-3 defeat.

Ryan Birch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Higley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Babcock, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Nate Kimmel also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Higley is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Williams Field, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-11 record this season.
