Preview: Northwest Texans vs. The Colony Cougars

The Northwest Texans will head out on the road to face off against the The Colony Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.

Two Thursdays ago, Northwest got themselves on the board against Saginaw, but Saginaw never followed suit. They blew past the Rough Riders, posting a 64-0 victory at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Northwest just coasted through the last quarter.

Saheed Durodoye continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 128 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Durodoye is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Northwest also got a significant boost from Jonathan Lopez, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.

Meanwhile, even though Brewer scored an imposing 36 points on Friday, The Colony still came out on top. The Colony walked away with a 43-36 victory over Brewer.

The Colony's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carson Cox, who threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Xavier Green, who picked up 242 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Their wins bumped Northwest to 5-1 and The Colony to 3-4.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Northwest has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 152.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like The Colony struggles in that department as they've been even better at 163.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Northwest didn't have too much breathing room in their game against The Colony when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 35-29 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was The Colony's Kamden Wesley, who rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Northwest to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
