Baseball Game Preview: Waterloo Vikings vs. Memorial Red Devils

For the second straight game, Waterloo will face off against Memorial. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Waterloo is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Memorial a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Waterloo turned things around against Memorial on Monday. They put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 11-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Vikings needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Mason Biltz spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Waterloo is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-10 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Austin Hurst, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jacob Fortney, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Waterloo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Waterloo, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.
